Desai & Associates Ltd has established a large, varied portfolio of projects in the built environment over the years, including the following:
PORT LOUIS LAND DRAINAGE STUDY, FOLLOWING THE FLOODING EVENT OF 30 MARCH 2013
Desai & Associates Ltd was appointed by the National Development Unit (NDU) to undertake the following the flooding events of 30 March 2013. The study included the hydraulic assessment for different flood return periods of the existing water courses falling within the study area (i.e., the cut-off drain along Signal Mountain, Le Pouce Stream, Ruisseau Creole, La Poudriere Canal, D’estaing Canal and Volcy Pougnet). This was undertaken to identify the mitigating measures required to protect existing infrastructure from future rainfall events. As part of the study, a complete survey of all the drain network and a plan of the storm water network for the central part of Port Louis was prepared.
LAND DRAINAGE STUDY FOR MAURITIUS
Desai & Associates Ltd was the local associate for Z&A S.A. for this World-Bank-funded project. The responsibility of Desai & Associates Ltd was to undertake all the field surveys of the catchment areas, including rivers, and assist in the hydraulic analysis, preparation of cost estimates for the drain works and report writing for the areas studied under the project.
FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT FOR CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR DRAINS, ROADWORKS AND AMENITIES PROJECTS FOR THE YEAR 2015 – 2017
Desai & Associates Ltd is one of the consultants that has been retained as part of the Framework Agreement for provision of consultancy services for drains, roadworks and amenities projects by the NDU. As part of this Framework Agreement, Desai & Associates Ltd has been awarded more than 25 separate drain work projects in different parts of Mauritius to provide long-term solutions to the flooding problems occurring in the identified areas. Some of the projects are already in the execution stage, while others are in different stages of implementation.
GLOBAL CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE PROVISION OF DESIGN, TENDER DOCUMENTATION, MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION SERVICES FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF 347 HOUSING UNITS AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS ON UNDEVELOPED LAND ON EXISTING NHDC HOUSING ESTATES – NHDC / 0413
Desai & Associates Ltd was responsible for the civil and structural engineering design of the housing units and associated infrastructure works; the coordination of all other team members including the architect, mechanical and electrical engineers, quantity surveyor and land surveyor; and the overall management of the project. The project was split into nine separate construction contracts with over 20 geographical locations all over the island. The total value of the works for the nine contracts was MUR 350 million. Under this project, multiple 5.5-meter-wide roads, with provisions for footpaths, storm water drains and other services, were design and constructed.
DESIGN AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO THE NATIONAL EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION
Desai & Associates Ltd was responsible for designing and providing project management services for the construction of a 2.5-kilometer-long, 6.0-meter-wide access road with a storm water network and all associated works to enable pig breeders in St. Martin to access land allocated to them as part of the empowerment programme of the Government of Mauritius. The project also included the provision of electricity and a potable water supply system to approximately 200 pig breeders.
GLOBAL CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR THE DESIGN, TENDERING AND MONITORING OF THE REHABILITATION WORKS TO THE EXISTING BLOCKS OF APARTMENTS AT LA TOUR KOENIG, CAMP LEVIEUX AND BEAU VALLON AS WELL AS THE STORM WATER DRAIN WORKS AT VALLEE DES PRETRES, CITE LA CURE, VUILLEMIN AND BATIMARAIS– NHDC/0213
Desai and Associates Ltd was responsible for the refurbishment of the storm water networks and the reinforced concrete blocks of apartments at six distinct sites. Services included determination of structural soundness and integrity, civil and structural design, proposals for remedial works, project management, tendering, contract administration and monitoring. The overall cost of the works under this project was MUR 225 million.
LAND DRAINAGE STUDY FOR THE SOLAR FARM FOR SARAKO AT BAMBOUS
Desai & Associates Ltd is responsible for studying, designing and implementing flood mitigation measures at the Sarako Solar Farm in Bambous to reduce the flooding risk caused by surface runoff from the Montagne St. Pierre.
GLOBAL CONSULTANCY FOR THE DESIGN, TENDERING AND MONITORING OF THE CONSTRUCTION WORKS FOR A BIOTECHNOLOGY CENTRE FOR AADICON BIOTECHNOLOGIES AT PITON DU MILIEU
The project involved the structural design of some 10,000 square meters of floor area for bull, cow and goat pens and a frozen semen laboratory for Aadicon Biotechnologies, an agro-based biotechnology company in Mauritius. The structure is an RCC frame with steel roof structure with all associated amenities. Desai & Associates Ltd was responsible for all the design, as well as seeking the building and land use permits and other necessary clearances on behalf of the client, preparing tender documents, tendering and evaluating the bids, and monitoring of the site works for all the infrastructure works.
DESIGN OF THE SEWERAGE FACILITIES FOR THE PLAINES WILHEMS SEWERAGE PROJECT – PHASE 1: CONTRACT WW 80F – LOT 1A
Desai & Associates Ltd was responsible for the survey and design of approximately 70 kilometers of street sewers (with pipe diameters ranging from 160 millimeters to 450 millimeters) connecting over 8,000 households in the Quatre Bornes area. The project also included the design of 5.6 kilometers of gravity mains (with diameters ranging from 500 to 600 millimeters), 4.0 kilometers of rising mains (with diameters of 450 millimeters), and a pumping station.
WASTEWATER MASTER PLAN FOR MAURITIUS TO COVER THE PERIOD 2014 – 2033 AS THE LOCAL TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TEAM TO SGI STUDIO GALLI INGEGNERIA AND SARI CONSULT LTD OF ITALY
Desai & Associates Ltd was assigned the responsibility of liaising with all the Ministries and other Parastatal bodies to obtain the necessary information and documents required as part of the Master Plan Study. In addition to this, Desai & Associates Ltd was involved in the hydraulic designs of the proposed sewerage systems identified for the period 2014 – 2033 in the Master Plan and the preparation of all the CAD drawings for the schemes. Desai & Associates Ltd is also involved in assisting all the experts involved in the project on their respective assignments.
